New to all of this. [16 May 2008|12:58pm]

Hi everyone!

I’m taking a mammal class and we prepared our first skin (it was a mouse) last week and I thought it was so much fun so I’m starting to work at the schools Wildlife museum preparing skins next week. I’m so excited they got a kola in the freezer that they said I can do!

But my question is about the legal aspects of it. I’ve read on here that people are picking up dead animals and skinning them. Do you need permits or or can I even do it at all in my own home? I don't want to get in trouble throwing skinned things into the apartments dumpster or something. I also work at a wildlife rehabilitation center and I was thinking of asking them when I get more proficient if I can prepare the skins of the birds and mammals that die for them to display in the visitor area but I wasn’t sure again of the legality of it all.

Also where all do you all buy your supplies like when we prepared the skin in class they had special cotton and borax that we used to make the bodies where could I find that online?

FINALLY.

Finals are done. D-O-N-E.

I have a week off and then I start my summer school math class. Suck suck suck. Still, though, a week of break is all I really need.

I still haven't heard back from the Student Publications job. I'm sure they're just busy with finals, and I'm really sure they're going to hire me, but at the same time I'd feel SO much better if they'd just call me and tell me I'm officially hired. I probably should have stopped by the student publications office while I was in the Union. Oh well.

And my fall math class was canceled :( Now I have to shuffle my schedule to fit in a different math class. SUCK.

It's time for food.

I animated some dancing on colored paper, Ian just helped me put it on youtube. I did the song with my brother, he's playing the accordion. I'll scan some smears sometime, the colors got mad butchered by the camera when I shot it!

I'm working on a side writing project right now, as a way to unwind, and at this point I'm kind of frightened of the levels of meta I have achieved.

I'm writing fanfic, for a show that doesn't exist, as someone other than me, who also doesn't exist. And at some point in the near future there will be RPS of people who don't exist who are working on the show that doesn't exist...written by people who don't exist.

I'm really not insane. It's just, there's a lot of room in my head where math was supposed to go, and I have to fill it somehow.

Met up with [info]kamenkyote yesterday in Harvard Square and had breakfast,
caught up quickly over an omlette :9

Made an appointment to pitch Paper Pals to the childrens bookstore there on the
corner, next wednesday. Then we crossed Hahvahd Yahd to see [info]chacxibchac and the
university's museum of historical scientific instruments, which is a really charming
and interesting collection that anybody wanting steampunk reference would be well
advised to check out. And it's a free show :) I was wanting for Mikey to meet Michael,
since they are both are among my favorite people evar and friends ^_^

After that we went downtown and saw Speed Fuckin' Racer, which I is easily now
one of my favorite films. I know, I know. I know. And it's not like the reviews
are wrong, but I loved it a lot. The visuals are incredible and often reaching
moments of sublime transportive majesty during the racing sequences. The first ten
minutes of the movie are just amazing, such good tight storytelling. It unravels a
little in pace after that, but to me, it was only to draw breath for more siren song.
Also, I'm a -huge- sucker for "family" stuff and there was a lot of that going on;
I laughed and cried and was never bored, what more do you want?

Then we went out to the MFA and looked through the exhibition of work by Antonio López García,
which I really enjoyed. It was certainly inspiring, and a perfect of example of what
disciplined and focused observation can produce. And it wasn't just dry photorealism,
the guy is able to insert subtle nuances of emotion and expressiveness into his work
in ways that evoke a kind of grey bleak existence and sickliness, while still being
basically beautiful and truthful to grubby reality. It's all uneasy work, and often
mystifyingly deadpan, but inspiring all the same. I need to paint, a -lot- and to think
more about the surfaces I'm creating, not just the image or the reproduction, etc.
I think it's very easy to forget notions of surface with tools like photoshop and such.

After that, over to davis square, met up with the Usual Gang of local folk and had dinner,
then RAWK BAND. I got a blister on my thumb. Because I am a noob ;_;

Friends :)

And now to nuu jork on the fireball fung wah express...

State of the Kittenpants: Spoke to another extremely friendly, helpful, but ultimately ineffective Dell tech for several hours last night. He tried, he really did. I removed the memory and HD both, and put them back in, after various diagnostics things. He praised the ease with which I followed his directions, and I told him my grandfather (Who programmed the lunar module for NASA in the 60s/70s, and had his own business building computers in the 80s) would have been horrified that I needed directions. XD Unfortunately, nothing helped, and the tech guy thinks it may be the motherboard. So, I'm supposed to get a call today or Monday from a local tech who will then schedule a time to come on site and fix my baby.

The good news is, my mother-in-law in bringing by Kittenpants 1.0 this afternoon, so I'll have a laptop to use until 2.0 is fixed. the Dell man just called, and because I am a smart cookie and brought 2.0 with me to work today, he can come by here this afternoon and work on it while I'm working, yays!

The bad news is that I lost the files from 2.0, which included the Fangirl Trifecta of extremely vital items: .avi files obtained through dubious means, porny fanfic and screencaps of naked Kirk Acevedo.

Unrelatedly, you need to see this. Don't ask me why, you just do.

And this, which is a fabulous drawing of Sam Tyler recced by [info]t_eyla.

Oh, and I'm going to try to say this as politely as possible, because you know I love y'all. DO NOT SPOIL ME FOR SPN. If I am reading my flist today and somebody's left something outside a cut, I'm going to be a sad panda.

After our rousing game of Mornington Crescent the other day, I decided to see if I could find any recordings of I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue, the radio show which so popularised it after it fell into postwar disfavour. I managed to find a torrent download of the entire run of the show, which is pretty impressive considering it's been going since the seventies.

Last night it finished downloading and I listened in on a few episodes. Sugar the Gassiest Dog In The World was over, because his parents are out of town for the weekend and we're dogsitting (Sugar is distinct from That Dog in that he is well-mannered, thoroughly trained, and not in fact a pit bull). Sugar showed his appreciation for my choice of evening entertainment by puking twice within three hours of arrival.

At any rate, I enjoyed the show, because as it turns out I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue is like some kind of demon conglomeration of Quite Interesting, Never Mind The Buzzcocks, and Whose Line Is It Anyway (before Drew Carey got hold of it and turned it into one long gay joke, anyway). It may in fact be the distant ancestor of all of them. Four reasonably witty, urbane men are put in front of microphones and forced to play games they haven't got a chance of winning while being scored by an arbitrary judge who plays favourites. It's all I listened to on the commute to work this morning and I can feel myself becoming more English as I go.

That having been said, their rendition of Mornington Crescent is deeply inferior to the round we just played. From the sound of it they're playing by Universal Amateur rules with the international exception, so I suppose we can't really make the comparison, but it just goes to show that it really is a game of strategy as well as knowledge.

The stockings don't fit. But that's okay. With the help of a pair of scissors, they have become thigh-highs! Yays.

The skirt+shirt looks good, except the shirt's buttons are made of fail. I have no thread or needle on hand at the moment to fix them so it's going to be babypins holding it together. Let's hope I don't poke myself in the boobs.

Ung, dressing up is so much trouble. I don't know how some people do it each day.

I've returned home after my 3-week stay in Canada. The visit rocked! Alex and I had a blast just hanging out and being with one another. I already miss him. :(

Phenique bought me the first season of Metalocalypse on DVD, so I'm watching that right now. Thank you so much, dude! :D

I recently worked out a deal and bought a sim on SecondLife for $250-ish to start. It's called Geardust. Not 100% sure what to do with it yet, but at least I now have a solid home base to set a shop up and hold events. The sim is purely business/recreational only, so please don't ask for any space or building rights.
